Why do my rhubarb leaves keep going yellow?

Q.

Hi Tui, why do my rhubarb leaves keep going yellow?

June

A.

Hi June

Is it the old leaves or the new leaves? Rhubarb is susceptible to rust, which appears as small orange spots on the underside of the leaf. Remove the infected leaves and improve air circulation around the plant,

It may be that the rhubarb has dried out, keep it well watered and feed regularly. They thrive with a nitrogen rich fertiliser, so regular applications of Tui Blood & Bone, Tui Sheep Pellets or Nitrosol are beneficial. Plants do start going dormant in autumn so the yellowing could also be the plant going into dormancy.

Thanks, Tui Team.
