Are vegetables sprayed with liquid fertiliser safe to eat?

  Canterbury
  October

Q.

Good morning, yesterday I sprayed my growing vegetables with TUI PERFORMANCE NATURALS ALL PURPOSE LIQUID FERTILISER. Only afterwards did I realise that I wanted to pick some baby spinach for my dinner and didn't know if it was safe to eat, even after washing it thoroughly, having just sprayed it so recently. I didn't pick it just in case. Is it OK to eat vegetables after spraying with NPK fertiliser ? Thank you.

Barbara Donald

A.

Hi Barbara, it is safe to use on food crops and to use the produce after the fertiliser has been applied. There is no withholding period for Tui Performance Naturals liquid fertiliser concentrates, a withholding period is the time from application to being able to eat the produce, and only applies to chemicals such as insecticides and fungicides. Performance Naturals liquid fertiliser formulation is 100% natural. As always though, best practise is to rinse and wash produce from the garden before consuming. Lianne.
