Can I spray citrus in flower?

  Auckland

Q.

Hi Tui, can I spray citrus trees when they are in flower? Thanks.

Paul

A.

Hi Paul, best practice is to spray garden plants in flower either in the early morning or late afternoon when bees aren’t foraging. If you are spraying with a chemical insecticide such as pyrethrum, do not spray when bees are foraging, once the spray is dry it is safe for bees. If using an organic natural botanical spray, it is still best practice to not spray when bees are foraging. Natural plant based botanical oil sprays are safer for beneficial insects, but could still harm them if sprayed directly on to the insect. The Tui Team.
