Can I use Pea Straw to grow mushrooms?

  Canterbury
  July

Q.

Hi there. I'm thinking of using your bagged Pea Straw to grow oyster mushrooms in. I was wondering if you could tell me if the straw if sterilised as part of the manufacturing process? Many thanks.

Hi Ben

Tui Strawberry Straw (barley straw) is preferred over pea straw. It is made from food grade barley crops but is not treated in any way, so it needs to be pasturised before growing mushrooms. This should be done using hot water. Check out YouTube videos for help with this.

Thanks, Tui Team
