Can tamarillos grow in the bay of plenty?

  Bay of Plenty
  May

Q.

HI Tui, can I grow tree tomatoes in the Bay of Plenty, and what is the best variety to plant? Thank you.

Andrea

A.

Hi Andrea,

Yes tamarillo will grow in the Bay of Plenty, as long as they are planted in a sheltered frost free position. The red fruiting varieties tend to be more acidic and the yellow fruit less acidic. For a big red fruit plant Oratia Red or Teds Red. For a less acid type fruit try Tango with reddish orange fruit.

Thanks, Tui Team.
