Do I split sweetcorn seedlings when I plant them?

  Hawkes Bay
  December

Q.

Hi Tui, I buy sweet corn seedlings from Mitre 10. There are usually two seedlings per cell. When I plant them out do I try to split them into singles (the roots are quite intertwined) or plant complete cell into the ground as a twin unit? Cheers.

Terry Wood

A.

Hi Terry

Plant the complete cell into the ground, don’t try and separate the plants as sweetcorn do not like having their roots disturbed excessively.

Thanks, Tui Team.
