Do tulip bulbs remain in the soil when they have finished flowering?

Q.

Hi Tui, I have tulip bulbs grown in pots - what do I do when they have finished flowering? Do the bulbs remain in the soil?

Lee Hancock

A.

Hi Lee

Yes, the bulbs can remain in the pots. Some people turn them upside down once they have dried out so that they don't get watered and the mix stays dry until next season. Put them in a dry, sheltered spot such as under a potting bench or in the garage or garden shed until next season once the foliage has died off. Don’t cut the foliage off as it is the bulbs food storage for next season and needs to completely dry off.

Thanks, Tui Team.
