Q.
Hi, we have been using garden pots for some years now and the soil in some of the pots with shrubs in them is very compacted. Do I try to refresh the pots and put in new potting mix, or is there another way? Thanks, Roger.
A.
Good on you for growing in pots, it’s a marvellous idea for saving space and adding colour to your garden. It is recommended to change the soil in your tubs each season or two. The nutrients from the old mix would have been used up by now and compacted soil isn’t ideal. Tip the old mix out into the garden or add it to raised beds or the compost heap and fill pots with Tui Pot Power and start a fresh. Soak plants in Seasol plant tonic to reduce transplant shock when replanting into the fresh mix.
Feed your plants in pots with Tui NovaTec Premium fertiliser.

How and when do I refresh my pot plants? Comments
I have the same problem as Roger, but my pots are too big to tip out the old mix, so how do I nourish my pot plants some of which have been in their pots for at least 10 years?

Hi Dorothy, keep your pots well watered and feed with Tui NovaTec Premium fertiliser. A regular side dressing of sheep pellets will help replenish the soil. You can also apply Seasol plant tonic every 2-4 weeks. Thanks, Jenna - Tui Team
