Q.
Hi, I have some hybrid decorative coprosma shrubs and I want to encourage them to be compact and bushy rather than grow 'leggy'. Can you advise on how and when I should prune them please?

Hi Diana, coprosma are a hardy native shrub not generally affected by frost and so can be trimmed anytime.
Pruning is usually done after flowering but as these hybrids are grown for their colourful foliage anytime you want to cut them back to shape will be fine. General rule of thumb is to cut back by about one third. Depending how leggy they have grown will depend how hard you trim them back.
