HI, I have planted chilli plants in a pot and used the garden mix soil. I water them every morning. They're in a warm sunny place. Today in the morning while I was watering them, I saw yellowish fungus on the soil. What is the cause for that and what should I do now?

Hi, the fungus is present because of the organic matter in the garden mix. Soil fungus and micro-organisms are constantly breaking down the organic matter which releases nutrients to plants. The mix may be being kept too moist, I suggest letting the mix dry out on the surface between watering, make sure you have good drainage in your containers, and if you have a saucer under the pot, consider draining it after you have watered so that your plants don't sit in water for a long period of time as this could lead to root rot problems. If you feel it is unsightly, you can remove it by scraping off the soil surface. The Tui Team.
