Why does my orchid have roots hanging over its pot?

Q.

Hi, I have eight orchids in my home. What should I do when there's lots of roots hanging over the pots? Do they need repotting? As I do not have much space for big pots.Thank you

Peggy

A.

Hi Peggy, orchids are epiphytes that live in trees and on logs. The roots are searching for moisture in the air and this is quite normal. You can repot them into new potting mix and tuck the roots back into the pot but they will naturally start overhanging the pots.

Keep them well fed, watered regularly and don’t be concerned about the overhanging roots.
