How to Sow a Lawn

Steps to sow LAWN SEED

Before sowing your lawn, read about how to prepare the area >

  1. For a fast-establishing lawn use Tui LawnForce® Superstrike Lawn Seed with the revolutionary filmcote treatment that speeds up seed germination. See growth in as little as 7 days under ideal conditions*.
  2. Step out the area to be sown. Most seed is sown at a rate of 30g per square metre.
  3. Halve the seed and sow one half in a north to south direction and the remainder east to west.
  4. Lightly cover seed with Tui LawnForce® Lawn Preparation Mix and rake so the seed is just covered. Covering seed helps reduce bird theft.
  5. Gently firm the surface so the seed is in contact with the soil, and water in well.
  6. Water daily or twice a day, adjust watering depending upon the weather.
  7. Avoid watering late in the day or early in the evening as remaining damp overnight can encourage fungal disease.

* Seeds will germinate in 7 days in ideal soil and weather conditions and when the correct steps are followed. in non-ideal conditions germination may take longer.
