Nectarine ‘Mabel’

Found as a seedling underneath a ‘Blackboy’ peach tree by a Waikato gardener named Mabel, this nectarine is unique with it’s stunning dark purple foliage and delicious sweet purple-skinned nectarines.

This variety will grow well in all areas of the country, ripens in mid season and is quite hardy to diseases. As with all nectarines, this variety is self fertile.

Nectarine ‘Mabel’ Comments

  • Hi there I would love to buy a Mabel Nectarine tree. Can you please advise if any of your stockists have any left from this season. Many thanks Laurel

  • Hi Laurel, we suggest getting in touch with Waimea Nurseries to check stock - http://www.waimeanurseries.co.nz/ This variety is listed on their website. Thanks, Jenna - Tui Team

  • When should we expect to pick this variety of nectarine? Fruit still on he tree, very hard but about the size of small nectarines. Lower Sth Island

    Ann Campbell

  • Hi Ann, nectarines generally ripen from January to March. With the summer we have had they might be a bit later. Stone fruit will continue to ripen if picked once the ripening process has begun on the tree. Once there is some ?give? in the fruit and it begins to soften it can be picked and laid flat in trays or boxes to ripen fully. To slow down the ripening process, store fruit in the fridge. Thanks, Tui Team

  • HI , I live in Raumati South. we get strong winds in early spring. Does Mabel nectarine blossom early, mid or late spring

    Grant

  • Hi Grant, this is a great question. Mabel is a late flowering and fruiting variety so it is ideal for your location. Plant it in a protected spot though as wind can knock off the small forming fruit. Happy gardening from the Tui Team.
