Any advice on planting proteas?

Q.

Hi Tui, I would like to plant a Protea either in a Pot or the ground. Do I use a fertiliser and what precautions do I need to take in terms of the weather? Your advice is always greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.

Hi Frank

You can plant proteas either in the garden or in a large pot. Proteas need well-drained soil and a sunny position, they will cope with a little winter chill but not while they're young. They're ideal for hot, dry positions and require little watering once they're established. They also require little to no fertiliser, they thrive best left to their own devices. Feed once a year with Tui General Fertiliser.

Happy gardening, Tui Team
