Can I plant the runners from my strawberry plants?

  Hawkes Bay
  April

Q.

Hi, I have plenty of runners developed from last seasons strawberry plants. Can I replant these now for next season, or is there some other way of keeping them over winter?

A.

Hi Wayne, you can plant the runners now into your strawberry bed. They can be temporarily planted into a bed before planting out later, or plant them into pots to hold them over winter, ensuring they get watered in winter. Strawberry planting time for commercial growers is May/June. The Tui Team.
