Can I trim my camellias over summer?

  Tasman
  January

Q.

Hi, my camellias are growing like crazy at the moment but i want to keep them really bushy. Can I trim the new growth now as the shoots are about 5-10cm apart and have grown about 20cm past the bushy part of the plant. Thanks!

Monique

Hi Monique, yes you can prune your camellias. They are obviously happy where they are growing. Cut them back to where you want the plant to become bushy from. They are very forgiving plants and can cope with pruning at any time of the year.

Feed your camellias with Tui Enrich, Rose, Camellia, Azalea & Gardenia controlled release fertiliser.
