Q.
Hi, we live just out of Dunedin and last time we planted potatoes they all had wire worm through them. Is there something we should do before planting seeded potatoes or is there a variety that is resistant to this? Thanks.

Hi Debbie, suggest you plant your potatoes in a different area to last time as wire worm can live in the soil for some time. Wait until the soil has warmed up. If you do not have another spot in the ground, plant them in containers, one or two will do the trick in a kitchen bucket or other container of your choice (ensure there are drainage holes). There aren't varieties that are resistant to wire worm. All the best and happy planting ^Tui Team
