Hi, I have planted a Hydrangea 'Limelight' and would like for you to advise me what care I need to do from now on (pruning, feeding etcetera). As usual, thank you for your advice. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Frank, Hydrangea Limelight is a lovely plant, I hope it is rewarding you with plenty of stunning white flowers. You may find the white flowers turn pinkish as the temperatures cool and the flowers age, this is normal. You can remove spent flowers once they have finished flowering, cut out any dead wood, but do the main prune in late winter, early spring cutting the plant back by a third once the risk of frost has passed. Hydrangea Limelight flowers on new seasons growth, so take care not to cut back too severely. If you prune in autumn or early winter the new growth that shoots away won’t have had time to harden off and may get frosted. Feed your hydrangea in late summer, early autumn, with Tui General Garden fertiliser or Tui Enrich Fruit, Citrus, Trees and Shrubs controlled release fertiliser, this will help promote flowering next season. Ensure it is planted in a sunny spot, in free draining soil, mulch around the plant to help keep weeds down and conserve soil moisture. Lianne.
