How much controlled release fertiliser do I apply to my citrus in 1/2 wine barrels?

  Wellington
  February

Q.

I have purchased some Tui Enrich Citrus, Fruit, Tree & Shrub controlled release fertiliser for my citrus trees in 1/2 wine barrels. They are large, advanced grade trees, how much controlled release fertiliser do I put in each barrel.

A.

  • Controlled release fertiliser is the best fertiliser to use for plants growing in pots and containers.
  • Nutrients are released when plants are actively growing and are dependent upon moisture being present and optimum growing temperatures.
  • Too cold, it stops releasing, too hot it stops, if there is no moisture fertiliser isn't released. This helps to avoid a build-up of 'salts' in the potting mix.
  • One scoop is 30g of fertiliser, for a 600mm 1/2 wine barrel, you can safely use 2-3 scoops evenly spread around the potting mix surface and water in well.
  • Tui Enrich Fruit, Citrus, Tree & Shrub controlled release fertiliser also contains beneficial soil microbes to improve soil health and encourage soil microbial activity.
