Q.

I have some supermarket garlic sprouting. Can this be planted now in spring?

Christine Strother

A.

Hi Christine, garlic is planted on the shortest day (mid June) and harvested on the longest day (mid December). It can be planted now but may not come to much as far as harvestable bulbs. The foliage can be used chopped up for a subtle garlic flavour. Ideally you wouldn't plant garlic from the supermarkets as often it has been treated to stop it sprouting away in the supermarket.
