Q.
Hi Tui, is it possible to grow and ripen oranges in Wellington?
David Burger
A.
Hi David,
Oranges are best grown in the warmer parts of the North Island, however are known to produce quite well in cooler areas provided they are in a sheltered and frost free position. Avoid planting where frosts and cold winds are common. Plant during the winter and early spring, however if frosts are prevalent we advise to delay planting until later, and young trees will need extra protection.
Happy gardening! Tui Team.
