Hi, I was recommended your organic fertiliser by my local garden centre. I have just read that it is unsuitable for pots and containers (I did inform them my veggies were in pots when purchasing). Why is it not recommended for pots and containers? I've already used it in my pots. Thanks.

Hi Diane, Tui Certified Organic General fertiliser is not recommended for pots and containers due to it being a blend of fertilisers with no control mechanism. When plants in pots are fertilised and too much is applied, a concentration of ‘salts’ from the fertiliser accumulate at the pot wall, this causes plant roots to burn. When applying to the soil there is a buffer and the excess fertiliser moves out into the soil, if over applied it can potentially burn plant roots in the garden too. The recommendation not to use on plants in pots and containers is best practice. As long as you do not over-apply the fertiliser to your plants in pots, it will be okay to use. You will know if you have applied too much as the leaves will start to shrivel and drop off the plant. If you suspect you have over-applied fertiliser, water the plant in the pot for 10-15 minutes to flush out the excess fertiliser. Lianne
