Is there a container to plant and grow bulbs in that can be lifted at the end of the season?

  Taranaki
  March

Q.

What do people use to plant bulbs in to keep them together so when they finish flowering they can be picked up together i.e. all gladioli bulbs together, tulip bulbs together?

A.

Bulbs can be planted into bulb planting baskets. The baskets are available from garden centres and hardware stores in the garden section.

  • Bulb baskets are low shallow plastic containers, almost like a garden sieve.
  • Lay the bulbs in the basket with Tui Bulb Mix , dig a hole and plant to the correct planting depth, burying the basket completely.
  • Label the baskets are to keep track of where they are planted.
  • These are easy to dig up once the bulbs have finished flowering, remove the soil or potting mix and allow the bulbs to die down naturally ready for storage over winter.
