What can I do about mosquitoes in my glasshouse?

  Manawatu

Q.

Hi Tui, I have just erected a green house and put many veges in to grow but have a problem with mosquitoes. Is there a harmless spray or something I can use to get rid of them. Thanks Terry.

Hi Terry, to start with, remove any stagnant water that may be around the glasshouse as this is where mosquitoes breed. If you can't remove the water, place mesh over the top to prevent mosquitoes laying their eggs, or a squirt of dish washing liquid or liquid soap in the water to create a film over the surface. Plant companion plants that repel mosquitoes such as basil, pyrethrum, or chamomile. Other plants that repel mosquitoes are marigold, lavender, rosemary, catnip, lemon scented geranium (or anything lemon scented), mint, garlic and onions. The Tui Team.
