What do I feed my daphne bush?

Q.

Hi, our daphne bush which was planted 2 years ago has numerous flowers forming, but also looks as if it needs 'feeding'. Please can you advise what we should use? Many thanks, Lynn.

A.

Daphne’s prefer a slightly acidic soil, therefore feed your bush with Tui Acid Food. Coffee grounds are useful too - add around the base of the plant. Next drench with Seasol seaweed based plant tonic to give the roots a boost and help improve the overall health of the plant.

  • Hi Tony, has your lime tree produced any flowers? Have you fed your tree with anything? Also, is it planted in the garden or a pot? Thanks, Jenna - Tui Team

  • Hi there I am not Tony but have the same problem. My answer is yes to all your questions and no to the flowers. My tree is 3 years old and planted in the garden. I also have a lemon which has yet to produce anything but tiny misshapen fruit Thank you

  • Hi Vivienne, it sounds like they are vigorous leaf wise but with limited fruit production it is likely there is a fertility imbalance in the soil. For citrus to thrive they require a rich fertile soil, but too much manure, sheep pellets or compost give the plants a lot of nitrogen but not enough phosphorus and potassium which encourage flower growth and fruit production. Suggest feeding your plants with citrus fertiliser or flower booster in spring and autumn to try and rectify the problem. The issue can also arise if plants do not get enough sunlight. Good luck. Thanks, Jenna - Tui Team
