Hi, which potatoes are indeterminate, these are best container ones as they make more potatoes as soil is mounded and added. Also the determinate ones don't need mounding up, this would save on buying vegetable mix to know this. I grow on an old riverbed and for me indeterminate potatoes give best yield for effort. Hi Christine, there isn't a lot of information on which New Zealand seed potato varieties are determinate and which ones are indeterminate. There is a lot of information on UK and US websites, but the varieties listed are not grown in New Zealand. Determinate seed potatoes are fast maturing in 70-90 days, they need more space to grow, they grow out and not up and grow in one layer, and so do not require mounding. Mulching is important to ensure the tubers do not turn green, and the potato tuber moth does not damage the potatoes. Plants will stop producing new growth once tubers are established and flowering commences, then plants die off. Fingerling potatoes are determinate. I would think early varieties such as Rocket and Swift are determinate.
Indeterminate seed potato varieties are main-late crops that take 110-160 days to mature and are suited to growing in small spaces and containers as they grow upwards and so require mounding. Plants continue to produce new growth indefinitely until frost or winter arrives. From this I would think the main crop varieties such as Desiree, Russet Burbank, Ilam Hardy, Heather, Nadine, Moonlight, Summer Delight will be indeterminate varieties. The Tui Team.

Which Potato varieties are indeterminate and determinate? Comments
Are Agria spuds indeterminate? Didn't see them mentioned.
Trevor
Hi Peter, Agria seed potatoes are a main crop variety that can take 150 days to harvest, and so are indeterminate as they grow upright and continue growing until they flower, die down and then are harvested.
