Why are my figs falling off the tree when they are only 1/4 of their full size?

  Auckland
  October

Q.

Why are my figs falling off the tree when they are only 1/4 of the size they should be? They are dried up. My tree is planted in the middle of my lawn.

David

A.

Hi David, fig trees can have a phantom fruit set, sometimes on a regular basis or sometimes just every season or two. The main fruiting time for them to be ripe and ready for harvest is autumn. Another set of flowers and fruit should appear in the upcoming months. Keep your tree well watered over the summer months and feed with Tui NovaTec Premium fertiliser.
