Why are my tomato leaves curling in a self-watering pot?

  Wellington

Q.

I have a tomato self watering pot which sounded perfect for my needs. However my tomatoes leaves have curled up quite significantly. Any solutions please.

Hi Jan, tomatoes will curl up their leaves up due to temperature fluctuations, hot to cold or vice versa. Tomatoes like it nice and warm but if it gets too hot especially if they are in a glasshouse or similar, the leaves will curl. The good thing is that they grow out of this, Tui Seaweed Plant Tonic helps plants tolerate temperature fluctuations, and it can be applied every 2-4 weeks in the growing season. Now that the first truss of fruit has set, the lower leaves can be removed up to the fruit truss and it is a good time to start supplementary feeding, use Nitrosol Tomato fertiliser or Tui Seaweed & Fish liquid plant food, feed every 2 weeks. Also, keep the watering up, water from the top, the tomato plants roots will grow down into the water reservoir and so should always have a constant water supply. Lianne.
