June
Q.
Hi there, why are my two loquat trees in flower now? It is early June and the frosts are starting in earnest here in Christchurch. The same thing happened about this time last year, whereas I would normally expect the trees to flower in December. Is there any action I could/should take at this time?

Hi Ray
It has been unseasonably warm and mild, and the trees are most likely confused. They may get frosted, however there is nothing that can be done. Frosts will knock the trees but unlikely to kill them if they are well established. Nature will take its course. Do not cut the flowers off as this will force new growth which will also be at risk of frost damage.
Thanks, Tui Team
