Why is my bougainvillea wilting in summer?

Q.

Are wilting plants an issue in your garden? A Tui Team member shared this photo of their bougainvillea - read on to find out what is happening.

A.

Around a lot of the country the weather has been wet and hot, with humidity reaching 98% in some regions. In this recent the bougainvillea has taken off. Now that the sun has come out and the foliage hasn’t hardened off it has wilted.

Within a few days it will have perked up when (if) temperatures cool. Don’t panic and think that the plant needs water, it is just the weather.

Feed your plants regulalry with Tui Organic Seaweed Plant Tonic to help them cope with extremes in temperature like this.

Why is my bougainvillea wilting in summer? Comments

  • interesting. I had this with a tomato plant and after 3 - 4 days of it not perking up I googled searched and read some thing called 'wilt' and pulled it out thinking it might spread. I should of been more patient.

  • Hi, my bougainvillea is in a dry position and livens up after I water it in the really hot summer weather.
