Will Tui Quash harm birds?

  Auckland
  September

Q.

Hi there, I have recently put down some Quash pellets following the packet instructions. I have seen birds eating them, I'm very concerned about the birds and the effect that the pellets may have on them, if any? Also when the snails or slugs consume the pellets do they leave any trace behind? There are now no pellets visible after approx two days. Thanks.

Maggie

Hi Maggie

The active ingredient in Tui Quash is chelated Iron EDTA. It does not harm birds or wildlife and is the safest slug & snail bait on the market. The iron is in a bran based pellet, which is what the birds will be attracted to. Once slugs and snails have consumed Quash they crawl away, it is not instant like other baits. If a bird was to consume slugs or snails that have eaten Quash, it is not harmful to them. Re-apply the pellets after rain.

Thanks, Tui Team.
