Can I re-pot my hoya carnosa variegata?

  Wellington

Q.

Hi, I have a hoya carnosa variegata which is looking very sad. Can it be pruned a bit & repotted? If so, which potting mix is best to use? It is currently outside and I would like to put it inside. Your help would be really appreciated.

Hi Frank

Hoya don’t like being repotted too regularly and prefer to be root bound. They will flower better when root bound in a pot. Make sure your pot has drainage holes and plant it into a free draining mix such as Tui All Purpose Potting Mix or Tui Flower Mix. Place it in a warm sunny position and allow it to dry out between watering. Test the mix with your index finger, if it feels damp don’t water, if it feels dry, water. Feed twice a year with Tui Enrich Pots and Containers Controlled Release fertiliser from August through to February.

Happy gardening, Tui Team
