Can Tui Citrus & Fruit Mix be used as a mulch for established trees?

  Bay of Plenty
  July

Q.

Can I use Tui Citrus & Fruit Mix for established trees? If so, what application rate should be used?

Shirley Cairns

A.

  • It can be used as a mulch around existing trees, in pots or in the garden.
  • Make sure any weeds and grasses are removed from around the base of the tree before the mix is applied to damp soil. If the soil is dry, apply after watering or rain.
  • Citrus trees have fibrous surface feeding roots which will benefit from the nutrients, organic matter, seaweed extract and wetting agent in Tui Citrus & Fruit Mix.
  • Apply in a 5cm layer around the tree as you would a garden mulch.

  • I have a 2 yr old avo and 2yr old cherymoya. How should I fertilise please?

    Colin Horsfall

    • Hi Colin, thanks for getting in touch. Regular feeding of avocados should start after one year of growth. Feed in late winter and early summer. For your cherimoya, feed every three-four months from mid-winter. Tui NovaTec Premium is suitable for both fruit trees. Happy growing ^Tui Team
