Hi Tui, do I need to wait till my squash pumpkin (butternut) vine dies before picking? We have a lot of fruit on the vine of varying sizes and don't want to pick the biggest ones which are the size of a normal pumpkin if not ready.

When the leaves on the vine of your pumpkin / quash dies away, this is an indication that they are ripe. You'll also know when to pick them because they will colour up and sound hollow when you knock the shell with your knuckles.
