Do you have to trim some leaves off a Brussels sprout plant to fatten them up?

Q.

Do you have to trim some leaves off a Brussels sprout plant to fatten them up?

Maurice Carthew

A.

Hi Maurice, cold temperatures initiate the Brussels to form. If your plants still have a lot of large leaves on them, it is unlikely your plants will form bigger sprouts now as it is getting warmer. This often occurs when plants are planted out later in the season, if the ground is lacking in nutrients or if the ground has become dry for any long period.
