Hello, I fertilise my vege garden with compost, blood and bone, lime and chicken poo. It has a wind break around three sides. The last two years i have had no success with either Yates or McGregor seeds. what am I doing wrong? I used to have a great vege garden.

Hi Don
By using compost, blood and bone and chicken manure you are adding a lot of nitrogen to the soil, which means you probably need an all purpose fertiliser to balance out the soil. If you are growing leafy vegetables such as spinach, silverbeet or lettuce then what you are doing is fine. If you want to grow root crops and brassicas then you need to add superphosphate and potassium to balance it out. You could do this by also using an all purpose fertiliser such as Tui General Garden fertiliser or Tui Vegetable Food. To know what your soil really needs you are best to do a simple soil test with a soil test kit. This will help you work out what you need to add.
Thanks, Tui Team
