I have a persistent weed in my lawn, how do get rid of it?

Q.

I applied Tui LawnForce Weedkill two weeks ago. All weeds except one have disappeared. Should I wait longer for the invasive weeds to die off? How long should I wait? I have used Woody Weed Killer successfully against these weeds. Should I spray it on the weeds? If so, when should I do it?

  • It can take up to 3 weeks for broadleaf weeds to start showing signs that they are dying off.
  • The weed in your lawn is Speedwell it is a persistent broadleaf weed and appears in lawns that are not thriving.
  • Speedwell is unaffected by most herbicides, repeat treatments will be required, the best time for this is in spring and autumn.
  • The lawn may need an extra dose of a selective herbicide in 3-4 weeks if Speedwell is still present.
  • The best method of control is to keep the lawn well-watered, regularly feed and mow on a high setting to crowd out unwanted weeds.
