Hi Tui, I would like to garden organically. Would you classify your Tui Potato food fertiliser as an organic product? Would you classify potting mix as organic? Thanks.

Hi Andy, Tui Potato food is not organic, it is a blend of fertilisers that have been created by chemical processes. An example of an organic fertiliser is Tui Blood and Bone, it is derived from animal by-products, is organic, as well as being a BioGro Certified Organic input.

An inorganic fertiliser is one that is created through a chemical reaction - for example, Tui Sulphate of Potash which is a source of potassium for the fruiting and flowering of plants. A natural source of potash (or potassium) is ash from the fire or comfrey leaves used either as a tea or composted into the soil. An organic or natural fertiliser is free of synthetic inputs and derived from plant or animal by-products, for example, Tui Blood and Bone is an animal by-product. Certified Organic fertilisers are organic and natural and have gone through a certification process by a trusted organisation such as BioGro. All inputs are audited annually to be sustainably harvested, free of any synthetic inputs and all animal by-products are from animals that have been treated humanely. If you are looking for an organic fertiliser for your garden, use Tui Certified Organic General fertiliser which is a balance of nutrients plants need to grow and is 100% organic and natural.

All potting mixes start off with an organic base of either bark, peat moss, pumice and/or coir. It depends what type of fertiliser is added to the mix.
