Why are my pumpkin leaves going brown?

  Northland
  January

Q.

Hi Tui, I have brown edges on my pumpkin leaves, what is it and how do i get rid of it?

Ratahi Kaka

A.

Hi Ratahi,

Because there is so much leaf on pumpkins they could have dried out, or it could be from not be getting enough water, the hardest thing for pumpkins is keeping the water up to them.

Too much fertiliser, wind burn or sunburn can also cause browning of leaves. If water has been on the leaf from rain or irrigating and then the sun comes out, it can burn the foliage. Mildews can be a problem in warm wet weather, also watering at night can cause powdery mildrew.

If it isn’t the whole pumpkin and only some leaves, increase the watering and keep an eye on it.

Thanks, Tui Team.

Why are my pumpkin leaves going brown? Comments

  • I've had an infestation of tiny white fly that seem to ruin most of my pumpkins leaves. Never had it before.

  • Probably lack of water, they start to die off this time of year anyway.

    • They get plenty of water but the tiny white fly is now all over other plants as well. Butter beans etc
