Why won’t my dwarf gardenia bloom?

  Taranaki
  October

Q.

Hi Tui, why won’t my dwarf gardenia bloom? There are many buds but they get to a certain point and then go brown. I have the plant in a large tub protected from the weather and well looked after. All my other plants are thriving but not the Gardenia. Please can you help?

Hi Leonz

Flower buds go brown and drop off when the plant is over watered or under-watered and when they have too much shade. Gardenias enjoy sun to partial shade, if they are being over-watered and in too much shade then the buds will drop off.

Perhaps move the tub to somewhere where it will get some more sun through out the day.

Thanks, Tui Team.
