FLATTO® Fabulous

FLATTO® Peaches have been extremely popular over recent years, and now there are two new FLATTO® varieties for home gardeners to enjoy - a Peach and for the first time, a Nectarine! The fruit is loved by kids and adults alike, being easy to eat and virtually unsquashable in lunch boxes! The stone can be removed by simply pushing the centre of the fruit, turning it into a fruity donut!

In Spring, the trees produces an abundance of white-pink blossom (40-50 flowers per metre of branch!). Both varieties are self fertile. The trees will grow to around 3.5m tall, but can be espaliered into a fan shape in smaller gardens.

The new yellow fleshed varieties are named ‘Button Bright™’ (Nectarine) and ‘Sweet Bonnet™’ (Peach). These new varieties join ‘Sweet Cap™’ (Peach – white fleshed) which was released by Waimea Nurseries in 2009. All three Flatto® varieties are grown exclusively by Waimea Nurseries.

FLATTO® NECTARINE BUTTON BRIGHT™
Produces large crops of sweet, tasty, yellow-fleshed fruit in mid-late February. The fruit weighs between 100-140g each. (Provisional Plant Variety Rights Protection – Oriola).

FLATTO® PEACH SWEET BONNET™
Produces large crops of sweet, tasty, yellow-fleshed fruit in early-mid February. The fruit weighs between 100-130g each. (Provisional Plant Variety Rights Protection – Oriane).

These new varieties are available from garden retailers nationwide from March, perfectly timed for Autumn planting – one of the best times to plant fruit trees.

FLATTO® Fabulous Comments

  • Are these fruit trees able to be planted in large pots

    Jenny Greenlees

  • Hi Jenny, the Flatto peach and nectarine trees are suitable for growing in pots, they would just need to be in a big one, like a wine barrel. They will need good quality potting mix with Saturaid or similar with regular fertilising and good deep watering during summer. It is important to make sure that the roots don’t get over-wet during winter. Thanks Jenna (Tui Team)

  • Hi, Could you please tell me if FLATTO? NECTARINE BUTTON BRIGHT is disease resistant especially to leaf curl, thank you

    trudy nicholls

  • Hi Trudy, sorry no it?s not disease resistant. Young trees of most peach and nectarine varieties can be susceptible to diseases like leaf curl, though seem to develop resistant when older and more established. Thanks, Tui Team

  • Can you tell me if the "Sweet Bonnet" is as sweet as the "Sweet Cap" variety?

    Gabriel

  • Hi Gabriel, we've checked with the supplier of both trees Waimea Nurseries, and they have advised the Sweet Bonnet peach is sweeter than Sweet Cap ? as Sweet Cap has more underlying acidity. Happy gardening from the Tui Team.
