How many tomato plants should I plant in the tomato tower?

  Auckland
  October

Q.

Hi, I have a new set up. Tui tomato potting mix in a tomato grow tower. 2 questions. How many plants can I put in 1 pot? Do I need fertilizer this season given the use of new tomato specific potting mix? Thanks Jo

Hi Jo, we recommend one tomato plant per planter, you should be able to fit a few basil plants around the plant as well which will improve the flavour of the fruit. If you are planting dwarf or tumbling toms, you will be able to fit two plants per planter. There is a good blend of nutrients in Tui Tomato mix and if you do no additional feeding you will get a good crop of tomatoes, but you will get a better crop and more fruit if you supplementary feed with a liquid fertiliser once the first truss of fruit sets, continue feeding every 4 weeks. Tui Seaweed & Fish or Tui Performance Naturals Tomato & Vegetable fertiliser are both good liquid feeds for tomatoes. Lianne.
