Why are the leaves on my lemon tree very dark grey?

Q.

Hi, do you know why the leaves on my lemon tree are very dark grey?

SUSAN KATIPA

A.

Hi Susan, it sounds like thrips or mites (both insects) are affecting your lemon tree. On the underside of the leaf there will be a ‘dust’ and black specks.

Use an appropriate insect spray to control these insects, talk to your local garden centre or DIY store for a suitable option. It helps to take in a leaf for positive identification as well.

Keep your citrus well watered over the summer, mulch around the tree to conserve soil moisture, regularly fertilise and use Tui Seaweed Plant Tonic to help improve the plants overall health.
