My citrus tree in a very large pot is not looking good. How often should I feed it with Tui Citrus fertiliser? I’ve given it a small dose of Epsom salts. It still looks sad - yellow leaves and slow growth. I’ve moved it into a sheltered spot. Maybe it won’t recover until spring time.

- Coming out of winter it is common for citrus leaves to turn yellow with the change in season.
- For citrus growing in pots and containers we do not recommend using a blended fertiliser such as Tui Citrus Food as it has no control mechanism and can potentially burn plant roots.
- Use a controlled release fertiliser such as Tui Enrich Fruit, Citrus, Tree & Shrub which feeds for up to 6 months. Nutrient release is dependent upon moisture being present and the right temperature, fertiliser is released only when plants are actively growing.
- Feed citrus in pots (and the garden) in early spring and again in late summer, early autumn.
- Weekly liquid feeding from spring through to autumn with Tui Citrus & Fruit Superfood liquid fertiliser will ensure the plant is actively growing and correct any nutrient deficiencies.
- Citrus trees benefit from regular applications of Tui Organic Seaweed Plant Tonic every 2-4 weeks to stimulate root growth, promote flowering and fruiting, and increase resistance to pests and diseases.
- Pots can be topped up and mulched with Tui Mulch & Feed or Tui Citrus Mix in spring and autumn.
