A new growing season is here and we've got the products and expert advice you need to successfully grow your own. Whether it's veges, fruit or citrus, the Tui essentials range will help you Prepare, Plant and Nourish for a bumper crop.
Pick your veges
Choose crops that suit the time of year, amount of garden space you have, and favourites your family enjoy eating and cooking with.
Our Planting Calendar lists what to plant each month, based on your region.
Check out our top 5 beginner crops here if you're just starting out.
Staples to consider planting for the cooler months include: beetroot, bok choi, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, kale, lettuce, radish, rocket, silverbeet, spinach, spring onion and herbs including parsley, thyme and coriander.
Leafy crops like spinach, rocket and lettuce can be harvested a leaf at a time and the plant will regrow for a continued supply.
Prepare & plant
Before planting, dig in Tui Blood & Bone - an essential garden ingredient to promote healthy plant growth and condition your soil, especially after the heavy growing seasons. The addition of Blood & Bone provides a natural source of nitrogen for healthy plant growth, and phosphorus for strong root development.
Then add a layer of Tui Vegetable Mix, containing all the goodies veges need for the best start and sustained growth throughout the season.
Simple steps to planting:
- Soak seedlings in a bucket of Tui Organic Seaweed Plant Tonic and allow to drain. This helps prevent transplant shock.
- Dig a hole, approximately twice the depth and width of the root ball of your plant.
- Gently loosen the root ball of your plant and position in the centre of the hole.
- Press soil gently around the base of the plant.
- Water your vege plants well.
Sprinkle Tui Quash to stop slugs and snails beating you to your veges.
Nourish
Plants need nutrients and water to grow and thrive, just like us. A well watered, well nourished vege garden will have a better chance of keeping insect pests and diseases at bay.
As your veges grow feed every four weeks with Tui Vegetable Food, a rich formulation of fertilisers including dolomite lime, and blood & bone to encourage healthy vege growth and microbial and earthworm activity in the soil.
